This is a place to store some notes and documentation. It was originally built as a way to make notes on interesting things I learn based on one of my favorite sub-reddit/[TIL](https://www.reddit.com/r/todayilearned/). While installing it the first time I wrote 'Today I learned that Google will translate to and from [Zulu](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zulu_language)'.

I'm often searching online documentation for answers to commands, configurations, and error messages. I figured that since I spend most of my working time with the terminal, git, and text files, a more efficient and easier method of documenting the time I spend reading other documentation would be to build my own TIL. This way the information I learn will be easy to record, search and edit. The problem is that I've found myself repeating those searches because of the breadth and depth of the amount of functions and libraries involved in development. My wife suggested I call it TIHIDI 'this is how I did it' after explaining what I was working on. It makes sense to use a static documentation instead of database because it's quicker, easier to search, under version control, and the file formats are interoperable with other software and publishing frameworks.

I'll keep the LOG in the [README](https://code.davidawindham.com/david/til/src/master/README.md), add a [help page](/help), and some [vi cheat sheets](/docs/shell/vi) to get started because I'm always forgetting some of them.

-Migrated this version from Gitbook because it wasn't playing nicely with Node.js v14 and it had a couple security vulnerabilities in the packages. Gitbook stop supporting the open source version likely for business reasons, so I migrated it all to ~~[https://docsify.js.org/](https://docsify.js.org/)~~ ... didn't do docsify because I can't generate static HTML which is what my DOM parser depends on to pull content elsewhere. Decided on using [https://docusaurus.io/](https://docusaurus.io/) instead. It required a bit of cleanup in the Markdown to do so. See: [https://davidawindham.com/til/help](https://davidawindham.com/til/help)

In doing so, I've moved the magic mini up to the office to act as a server on which to drop my development projects during the migration. I previously had used the mini as a media server in the den but I've found that it's easier to user AirPlay from a tablet. I'll leave a breadcrumb trail here of the specifics as a reference.

Picked him up from the Apple Store. Moved my old laptop so that I could share the screen for referencing configuration. Booted her up and loaded up activity monitor and command line top to watch the processes. I always avoid using the migration assistant so that I can start clean. My main goal is to keep the machine as minimal and simple as possible. I am going to try and avoid running any x86 processes under Rosetta in my attempt to go fully ARM [https://davidawindham.com/arm/](https://davidawindham.com/arm/).

**25/04/07** - my new Mac Studio came in over the weekend. Right now I'm calling it Stu and it seems like it's going to stick. It's an upgrade I promised myself to go along with the new [studio project](/notes/house/studio). It's a replacement for my old Mac Mini ( [Magic](/docs/computers/magic.md) ) which was the last of my working local machines not on an ARM architecture. I remember when 1GB of memory was considered outrageous. It's a hoss and will serve as my primary desktop alongside of my laptop [Ovid](/docs/computers/ovid).

I'll use unfinished prebuilt cabinets and match the dark walnut stain to the existing mantle, rafters, and wet bar(aquarium stand) so it looks like it has been here since the house was built.

It really bothers me for anything to take away my attention. In this case, I was trying to keep my Apple TV home screen clean so I don't have to see or surf through offers of other stuff to watch. I curate an 'up next' list and I usually make notes that sync between my devices when someone mentions a movie or show. I usually handle this with 'quick Notes' that sync between devices. That mostly works, but the problem I'd like to have them all in one place so that I can archive and search what I've already watched much the same way I database my music listening habits. This will give me a simple searchable place to store it all without any complex APIs, databases, or whatnot. It's a work in progress .

I’m happy to be coaching the Emerald High School Tennis teams. Even though I have a lot of tennis experience, I am relatively new to coaching. In 2022, I was asked to be assistant coach by the previous coach and the athletic director at Emerald asked me if I’d be interested in becoming head coach in 2022. I work as an independent software and web developer so my schedule is gracious enough to allow me to coach and play tennis. I’ve found great rewards from watching the kids learn and grow. I grew up in Columbia and played a lot of tennis as a junior becoming all-region in high school and state-ranked. I had some really good coaches as a junior and a scholarship to play tennis at Lander. At the time, I told my parents that ‘I didn’t want to live in Greenwood’, so it’s funny how things work out. I started back playing tennis about six years ago for the health benefits. Tennis is a very rewarding and demanding sport both physically and mentally. My approach is that I want them to grow as players who are able to have fun in the process. Ginny, my wife, also plays tennis and will be my assistant coach. She is the director of Special Education for Greenwood District 50. Ginny previously worked as the lead psychologist for the district and had an office at Emerald for many years.

I added a multi-track setup a new microphone this week that'll allow me to record each channel separately and then polish them down in Audition. I also figured out how to use a new VOIP application ( Murmur/Mumble ) so that I don't have to pipe your audio in via a phone call or other application. This will give me very high-quality audio from your microphones with low latency. It'll also give spacial audio to each microphone so that one is on the left, the right and the center. I'll need to show you how to install and connect to my VOIP server. It'll also free up my line to call other guests. I'd like to test this out with y'all live sometime in the next week so y'all are pumped about it before LEAF.

I've used the term '[Second Brain](https://davidawindham.com/a-second-brain/)'4 to describe these TIL documents because it's really just another tool. The difference is that this tool is going to be much more easily used and customizable to a bunch of different applications. For instance: Your car already has machine readable codes that can diagnose and troubleshoot issues. The problem is that most people don't have the tool to plug into the car and even then don't have the reference for those codes. Semantic language search is going to help all of those other people who metaphorically don't have the code reader or a diagnostic reference. Medicine, education, law... etc. It's going to have an impact and I'm all in on it.

Members of the spinach and brassica families are high in oxalates. Sorrell, parsley, chives, chard, beet, rhubarb, carrot, collards, and quinoa also contain high levels of oxalic acid. The Virginia creeper produces oxalic acid in it's berries as protection against plant predators in the form of Raphides which are needle shaped crystals facilitating the passage of toxins.

Somehow during the 1980 presidential election debates, the briefing papers for Carter were acquired by Reagan's team. We had the _Class Clown_ album in our house growing up and I think I first paid attention to it in about fifth or sixth grade likely just because I liked the album title. Seven dirty words wasn't exactly suited for kids in elementary school, but it was pretty enlightening and I kept the album in my room from then on. The only comedy album I think I played more often was Steven Wright's _I Have a Pony_ 6. This was all right about the time of the Iran Contra affair. As I've gotten older, I have greater respect because I think I understand more now.

It's a mature Carlin and I like how he emphasizes when talking about politics that the key is laughing at ourselves and squarely places the target on the 'we' as a group. So I think it's kinda a 'self-punch' versus a 'punch-up' or down. In that regard, both Aristotle and Plato were right with opposing views. Carlin saying "I don't like political jokes" is like George Bernard Shaw saying "My way of joking is, to tell the truth". I use the 'punch-up approach' enough so that it might be called a David and Goliath complex. I try to accompany it with plenty of self-deprecation, but I prefer it when the punch line is about ourselves... everyone. Given the considerations here and our current political climate, I think we desperately need a healthy dose.
